Obituary

Janet Sottile passed away Monday, December 21, 2020.  She was 81 years old. A native of New York, she was born and raised in Elmhurst, Queens. She also lived in Vermont and California, but made Texas her long-time home. She loved her family and friends. She knew no strangers and loved to entertain, welcoming friends and family into her home. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was the keeper of the family history and loved to share those stories with family and friends.  Janet was a faithful woman; her church and church family were always a central part of her life. It would be wrong to say Janet lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter what she faced, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Janet stayed strong and kept a positive outlook. Through her we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Janet. She is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Bryce Schultz and John Schultz. Her brother John Frank Schultz and her infant son, Anthony Sottile. Janet will be greatly missed by her beloved family. Her husband of 61 years, Tony Sottile, her three children, Marie Walls and husband David, Lisa Schleicher and husband Shon, John Sottile and wife Kathy. Her six grandchildren, David Anthony Walls and wife Megan, Daniel Walls, Meredith Washington, Noah Schleicher, JoJo Sottile and Toni Sottile. Her three great grandchildren, Carter Walls, Hadley Walls and Kai Washington. And, her many cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. A funeral mass will be held Monday, January 4 at 11:30 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano. The service will also be live streamed with the link on the church website – St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church/Plano, TX (setonparish.org) The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Janet’s name to Day Spring Assisted Living (6400 Cheynne Trail, Plano Tx 75023) where they lovingly helped care for her the last year of her life. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

    My Aunt Janet
I have alway been grateful to my parents for giving me my Dad’s little sister, Janet, not only as my Aunt, but as my very Special Godmother
She meant so much to me. There were years in my life when we were very close & spoke everyday and then, there were years we spoke once or twice, but we loved each other & there was no difference
When I was about 7 years old, Aunt Janet sent me my first white fur hat with matching muff I felt like a movie star⭐️ and I looked forward to winters back then!
12 years ago, Aunt Janet sent me a beautiful cross ✝️ for my 50th birthday I still wear it everyday
Aunt Janet was so very kind & generous, and at the same time,
she was a straight shooter there was nothing false about her
I worked for a while with Her at Harris Corp in Texas. I loved our car rides to & from work. She told me stories of Elmhurst & my Dad & Nanny & Pop & the whole family and how they all lived & grew We ate lunch together every day. She introduced me to Waldorf salad, & the *history of it!
After lunch one day, I watched as she cleaned her eyeglasses in the ladies room sink, she cleaned like a pro! As I took out my cleaning cloth & eyeglass spray! Aunt Janet glanced my way & laughed, “Lynn, she said, you only need soap & a tissue, & you don’t need any special spray, just NEVER use a paper towel, that’s what scratches your lens!” To this day I hear her voice telling me “NO PAPER TOWELS” whenever I’m cleaning my eyeglasses
Aunt Janet narrated a family history, which Uncle Tony made into a video with all old photos of relatives that I never would’ve known about if not for her great memory & her belief in keeping the family history alive for all the generations they sent a copy to each of us My aunt Janet was one in a million
Buster & I were fortunate enough to enjoy many dinners with Aunt Janet & Uncle Tony. We loved listening to the stories they told about “the Olden Days”, & growing up & finding each other Theirs was a true Love Story, over 60 years
Buster & I cherish these memories, especially now, as a gift & a blessing to have been privileged enough to share in.
To say Aunt Janet is going to be missed is an understatement, it’s hard right now to comprehend that she’s no longer with us on our life journey here.
But, her belief & faith in God & Heaven & all of us being together again one day, will give us the strength to live out our lives knowing she’ll be watching over us all & cheering us on with each step
Rest In Peace ☮️my wonderful Aunt Janet You did a great job here It’s been my honor to call you Godmother I will love you forever ⭐️

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
