Breashears, Mary
Obituary
Mary Catherine (VanWright)Breashears entered into rest on Friday, February 12, 2021, at Baylor University Medical Center A. Webb Roberts in Dallas, Texas. Ms.Breashears was born in Opelousas, Louisiana to Edmond and Mary(Green) Van Wright. Mary Catherine (VanWright) Breashears, or affectionately known to family and childhood friends as “Sippie,” and to other friends as “Catherine or Cathy,” was born February 24, 1949. She was the ninth of nine children. Ms.Breashears received her early education within the St. Landry Parish School District and was a 1966 graduate of J.S. Clark High School in Opelousas. She also attended the University of Southern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana from 1966-1969, majoring in Nursing. Ms.Breashears also attended Milwaukee Area Technical College from 1979-1980 to receive Social Worker Training. And decades later she attended Northlake community college in Irving, Texas. Ms.Breashears’ vocational calling ultimately led her into the field of Insurance claims examination and several different positions within the field. Cathy really enjoyed traveling with friends and family over the years. She was able to go on an all girls cruise with some of her nieces a few years ago. She was always planning the next trip and ready to go on a moment’s notice. Cathy had a close relationship with her nieces and nephews and they spent every chance together they had. She loved clothes and shopping; and she had this defining elegance about her; even if she was wearing a sweat suit. Cathy’s love for her family and friends was always evident, and her Community Bible Fellowship church family was just as crazy about her, as she was for them! But if you knew Cathy, then you’d know that the apple of her eye was her son Steven Beckley: their relationship and bond was truly special. After a long and hard fought battle, the LORD God Almighty called his precious daughter Cathy home Friday morning, February 12, 2021. Cathy is survived by : son, Steven Christopher Beckley, Irving,TX; granddaughter, Naya Beckley, Irving,TX; great grandson, Ronell Julius Williams, Irving,TX; beloved god-daughter,Dia Covington,Overland Park, Kansas; 13 nephews and 12 nieces, and a host of great & great great nephews who are spread all over the country and world. And a host of dearly beloved friends. Mary Catherine Breashears was preceded in death by : parents, Edmond and Mary VanWright; sisters Louilda Richardson and Lou Marie “Sis” Duke; brothers Hilton “Old Man,” Howard “Blake,” Emile, Louis Walter, Harold “Cuze,” and Edward “Tatoo” VanWright. Mary Catherine (VanWright ) Breashears was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ who lived life to the fullest always with a beautiful smile. Until we see her again, she will be greatly missed. There will be a limit of 50 persons in attendance due to COVID 19 restrictions. **The repast will be held at Community Bible Fellowship after the funeral service, located at 615 N. Words cannot explain the pain when you lose a mother and especially when she your backbone. Just knowing God will help you with the pain and just knowing she is in a better place puts all our minds at ease. Stay strong Steven and just know that you have an Angel watching over you now.
Cathy was my dear friend, movie date and church running buddy. I will miss my friend so much..both her hilariously dry humor and her good kind heart. See you later my dear friend.
Ms. Cathy, you will never leave my heart. Fine dining and get togethers will never be the same. I know Heaven is best and I will see you again. We will celebrate the victory. Love you tremendously!
