Obituary

Lynda Gayle Marquardt, age 74, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 2nd in Dallas, Texas.  She was surrounded with loving family including her husband of more than 39 years, James (Jim) Marquardt. Lynda was born on December 17, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Iris Dell Powell and Erma Jo Powell, née Sills.

Lynda graduated from Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. After leaving Tulsa and living in various cities throughout the U.S., Lynda moved to Arizona. While working full-time, Lynda completed her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work (with highest honors) degrees from Arizona State University. Lynda was a lifelong advocate and supporter of her Alma Mater.  It was in Arizona that Lynda met and married Jim.

Lynda had a long and distinguished career in the social services field with the focus always on serving others in various capacities, especially the underserved.  While in Arizona, Lynda worked for Planned Parenthood, Tri-City Mental Health Center, Senior Health Services, Maricopa County Health Department, Health Care Providers of Arizona and Arizona Department of Health Services.

In April of 1991, Lynda began her career as a Social Work Consultant with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in Dallas, Texas.   While at HRSA, Lynda received many awards and accolades, too numerous to list.  Lynda continued to be a devoted, respected, and valued employee of HRSA up until the time of her death, serving as the Project Officer and Regional MCH consultant for Region VI Title V Block Grants.  Lynda worked in the Dallas Regional Office and assisted the region in carrying out Title V initiatives that help improve the health services provided to pregnant women, infants and children, including those with special needs.

Lynda was passionate about her rescued Brittany Spaniels and was a longtime supporter and participant of the Brittany Rescue in Texas.  If you knew Lynda, you knew her fur babies, Gabe (aka Gabe the Babe) and Harper.

Survivors include her husband Jim Marquardt of Dallas; brother, Larry Powell (Joyce) of Tulsa, OK ; much beloved nephews Casey Powell of Tulsa, OK and Sam Powell (Cass) of Southlake, TX;  adored niece Delaney Powell of Tulsa, OK (Lynda also adored her great-nephews, Zakk, Ryan, and Franklin);  several cousins and their families and her best friend for life Mary Prince (Everett) of Lake Oswego, Oregon.  Lynda was preceded in death by her parents and beloved niece Cheri, wife of Casey.

I have known Lynda since junior high school and always heard her in the highest regard. She was intelligent and focused and sweet and kind. I loved her Facebook posts with her darling dogs–how lucky they were to have her. To her family, I am so sorry that she is gone, too young, and I know all of you will miss her and hope that all of the loving memories you share of her will help through the sadness. Rest in peace my friend.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
