Hardman, Betsey Peale
Obituary
Betsey Peale Hardman, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM CST on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration located at 14115 Hillcrest Rd, Dallas, TX 75254 with The Rev. R. Casey Shobe, D.Min. officiating.
Betsey was born on Long Island, NY to Mundy and Betsey Peale on November 13, 1948. She had a fairytale childhood hopping between Long Island, New York City, the Florida Keys, and summering in Europe and the family ranch in Wyoming. Betsey was a very energetic and active youth that was best described by President Hoover who nick named her Quick Silver. She graduated high school from The Spence School in New York, NY. She received her BA in Journalism from Boston University, MS in Mass Communications from Texas Tech University (TTU), and MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. She married Jody Hardman on December 9, 1972, at the church of the Holy Ghost in Denver, CO. They remained in Denver three years, leaving shortly after their first daughter was born. Betsey and Jody moved to Beaumont, TX in 1975 where they lived briefly before moving to Lubbock, TX in 1978 where they had a son and twin daughters and resided for 18 years. They moved to the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex in 1996 where they developed a strong community of friends, helped their children through high school and college, became “empty nesters,” supported their children as they built their own lives and families, and loved each other every day. Betsey devoted her life to her family. She was a loving wife and mother who always put her family’s needs above her own. Betsey was a dedicated servant of God and a cradle Episcopalian. She grew her faith in the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY. She shared her faith with her four children at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lubbock, TX where she attended faithfully for 18 years serving on the vestry and in many other leadership roles. After moving to DFW, she quickly found her way to the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration (The Fig) where she attended regularly until she passed. Betsey and her husband Jody found fellowship and love through many friends at The Fig who became their closest world-traveling companions and are a source of strength, inspiration, and support for them both. Betsey was an active volunteer at The Fig where she shared her many talents supporting the vestry, Clothes Horse, Austin Street, St. Hilda’s Guild, and St. Elizabeth Guild. Betsey was known as a “Dynamo.” She had an energetic spirit and hard work ethic that was reflected in everything she did from her volunteer activities to planning international adventures for her husband and friends. Her intense drive was also reflected in a successful career in Corporate Communications. She began her career as a graduate instructor of Communications at TTU where she taught for six years. After teaching, she worked at Texas Instruments (TI) for seven years starting as a Site Editor and advancing to become the site Communications Manager for the Semiconductor Group. She left TI to join Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in 1998 where she remained for 11 years. She began her career at EDS as the Global Communications Manager and quickly advanced with increasing levels of responsibility to become the Director of Communications for the Services Lines and Delivery Operations before retiring in 2009. Since she did not know how to slow down and wanted to give back from her years of experience as a global Communications leader, she went back to teaching graduate Communications at Northeastern University. Betsey is survived by her husband Jody Hardman; children Jennifer Scarborough (John), Aubrey Hardman (Ashley), Blake Hull Zajac (Chris), and Morgan Larkin (Neal); grandchildren Sayler Scarborough, Saxon Scarborough, Alivia Hardman, Nicolas Hardman, Holton Hull, Van Larkin, and Jax Larkin; sister Sandra Eike; nephews Michael Sansone, Mundy Peale, Sheldon Eike, and Lalon “Clipper” Peale; nieces Shannon Sommers, Danielle Rook, and Alison Lewis; and pets Chola and Tesuque. She is proceeded in death by her father Mundy Ingalls Peale; mother Betsey Farwell Peale; sister Georgia “Dickie” Sansone; brother Mundy Ingalls Peale, Jr.; nieces Karen Pope and Stephanie Alaniz; and pets Loni, Holly, Scooter, Myah, and Jäger. The family of Betsey Peale Hardman wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration and Faith Presbyterian Hospice Center and request that memorials be given to the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration Endowment Legacy Fund and T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center Endowment. Please indicate gifts are in memory of Betsey Peale Hardman. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.Arrangements under the direction of:

Praying for comfort and peace for all of you.
I met Bitsey, as we called her, when I was 10 and moved to Garden City with my family. The Peals lived across the street from us. One day, my mom said, “There’s a little girl who has been walking back and forth in front of our driveway for two days now. Why don’t you walk down there and say hi?” I did. And from that moment on, we became best friends. Bitsey had something I’d never seen before, a pogo stick. We pogo’d every day for hours in front of her parents’ house and got quite good at it. We also attended The Cathedral of the Incarnation, and I remember Mrs. Peale dropping us off for Sunday school. Bitsey would wait until her mom drove away, and then she took off her white ankle socks. She was a fashion star at 11! I Cherish all the sleepovers at her house. The Peale and the Hardman families have my heartfelt gratitude and condolences. Brooke
Betsey brought laughter and joy with her no matter where she was, especially to her family. Love, Larry and Mimi
Our family loved Betsy. She was always a good friend and neighbor helped people without wanting anything in return. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. So many wonderful memories. We will pray that you will find some peace in all the memories Betsy gave us. Love to all
It has been one year since our beautiful mother passed. Though she has transitioned from this world, she remains in our hearts and memories. The impact she had through her kindness, compassion, and spirit lives on through all who had the privilege of knowing her. She continues to teach me and guide me on how to live more fully and be present with all those I am privileged to encounter in my life. We love you and miss you Mom.
