Poff, Margaret "Maggie" Jean (Torrence)
Obituary
On Saturday, August 7, 2021, Margaret “Maggie” Jean Torrence Poff, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister went to be with the Lord at the age of 73 in Richardson, Texas, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Maggie was born on June 30, 1948 in Houston, Texas to Robert and Dorothy Torrence. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education specializing in Home Economics from Texas Tech University in 1970. While at Texas Tech, she met the love of her life, Ron, whom she married July 25, 1970. They raised two sons, Charles and Brian. Maggie was the much-adored center of her family. She spent her early career as a Home Economics teacher, then devoted herself to her own bow business, as well as working a part-time position for Proctor and Gamble, all while dedicating her additional time to her family, friends and volunteer passions. She loved having gatherings, especially at their lake house at Moss Lake in Gainesville, Texas. You could always find her fishing, knitting, quilting, crafting and providing a fun, loving atmosphere for her family. Maggie was known for her sewing and craftsmanship skills, making many beautiful quilts with her quilting group as well as making prayer shawls with her knitters’ group. She and Ron were members of The Heights Church where they made many friends. Our beloved Maggie will be greatly missed for the life she gave her family and friends and for the joy that she showered on everyone she met. Maggie is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Dorothy Torrence, and great nephew Samuel Yeargain. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ronald J. Poff, of Richardson, Texas; her two sons Charles (and wife, Jennifer) Poff of Plano, Texas and Brian (and wife, Jaynie) Poff of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren Hayley, Lillian, Emma and Charles “C.J.”; sister Patricia (and husband, Bob) Yeargain of Austin, Texas; niece Jennifer (and husband, Dean) Fisher of Austin, Texas; nephew Scott (and wife, Mary) Yeargain of Sugarland, Texas; five great nephews Jonathan, William, Andrew, Davis and Max and many loving friends. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at The Heights Church in Richardson, Texas. Those who wish to remember Maggie in a special way may make contributions to the Prayer Shawl or Quilted Blessings ministries of The Heights Church in her memory. “She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith.” Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
