Obituary

Sandra Yvonne (McCormick) Brady  passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 following a totally unexpected cardiac event a week prior. The world lost a beautiful, bright, deeply caring soul that day. She was born October 5, 1946 in Washington D.C. to Ina Grace (Diehl) McCormick and Winfred Steele McCormick. She was their only child and was adored. During her childhood, they lived in D.C., Maryland, New Jersey and later in Manassas, Virginia. They often visited family in Wayneboro, Virginia where she played with many cousins including George and Cathy Lester (Bosserman). She attended Moorestown High School in New Jersey where she met her lifelong best friend Carolyn Pond Harrison. They graduated in 1964. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. While at VCU she met and married Dennis Lawrence Brady of Irving, Texas. They had two daughters Stephanie Denise Brady (Smith) and Jennifer Yvonne Brady (McCarter). Sandra and Dennis were married 53 wonderful years. She dedicated her life to her family and to her faith. She served in many roles and committees at St. Stephens Presbyterian Church in Irving over the years, from Sunday School Teacher, to Vacation Bible School teacher, to Board Member. In the 1990’s she worked for the City of Irving at the Irving Public Library. She lived a life of service to her community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for more than 40 years. She had volunteered with Irving’s Family Promise in recent years. Sandy was vivacious and fun. She loved ballet and tap dancing. She tap danced with Jill Rejeanne’s Dance Company for many years. She loved old movies from the 1940’s – 1960’s and knew the names of all the actors and actresses and which movies they starred in. She loved Big Band Music from the 1930’s and 40’s – her favorite was Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. She loved animals and was partial to small dachshunds over the years (Tammo, Kleina, Tuffy, T-Baby) and any small dog that needed to be rescued. She also kept doves as pets for many years. She never let a holiday or birthday pass without celebratory homemade cookies, pies, or treats. Sandra was prayerfully devoted to her husband Dennis, her daughters, her son in laws Kevin John Smith and Monte McCarter, and to her grandchildren Erin Smith, Bradyn Smith and Ronan McCarter. Her faith in Jesus Christ was deep and profound, and we know heaven welcomed her joyfully with open arms. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving on Friday October 8th at 2:00 PM.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
