Obituary
Phyllis Jo Hoge, 85, of Dallas, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013. Born August 5, 1928 in a logging camp in Pine Valley, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Florence McMahan of Apache, Oklahoma. She was preceded by her husband William R. Hoge. She is survived by two sisters, Jane Spillars and Dee Sligar, her four children, Andrea Heaberg, Linda Adkins, Brent Barker, and Laurie Dunkin; three grandchildren, Rebecca Paige Sanchez, Christopher Dunkin and Amber Pengelly; and a great-granddaughter Haydn Pengelly. Jo was a graduate of the N.Y. School of Interior Design, licensed in the State of Texas, member of the American Society of Interior Design and an officer in the Interior Design Guild of Dallas. She was a design contributor to the Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids. Jo was elected as an officer in the Texas Green Party at the age of 82. She was a social, community and human rights activist. She was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Dallas and active in the Women’s Day Alliance. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 17, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas, 4015 Normandy Ave., Dallas, Texas with reception following in Channing Hall. The family requests in lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the Women’s Day Alliance Projects, c/o First United Unitarian Church, 4015 Normandy Ave., Dallas, Texas 75205.
