Higley, Marvin F.
Obituary
On Sunday, September 28, 2014, Marvin F. Higley passed away at the age of almost 99 years old. Marv is predeceased by his parents, Ford and Ruth Higley of Akron, Ohio and his brother Robert P. Higley of Austin, Texas. He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris, and his brother, Richard C. Higley of Apopka, Florida as well as extended family. Born on January 25, 1916, Marv enjoyed a distinguished professional career with Stouffer Foods and served his country with honor in World War II. He received the Purple Heart for his service and bravery as well as the Bronze Star for which he was forever humbled. He was also a member of The Big Red 1 Division.
Marv was transferred by Stouffer Foods to Dallas to lead a 7 state regional sales office that he managed successfully for many years. Once in Dallas, he and his wife remained after retirement except for winters spent in Arizona. An avid golfer, Marv enjoyed this sport into his early 90’s. As well, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, their Sunday School class at Highland Park United Methodist Church, a dance club and many evenings with friends playing bridge.
Marv blessed the lives of not only his wife but nieces and nephews, as well as great and great great nieces and nephews, friends and those with whom he came in contact. When asked by others to describe Marv, such words as kind, loyal, an honorable soldier, humble, gracious, proud of his country and a true gentleman were often spoken. Additionally, Marv was blessed with brilliant blue eyes, a smile that would melt your heart and movie star good looks.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stuart Owen for his faithful care of Marv for over 30 years as well as thank the staff at Monticello West for their support of both Marv and Doris over the past year.
A Memorial service is scheduled for Marv at 10 A.M. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas Texas, 3300 Mockingbird Lane. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to: The Purple Heart, chapter 542, 9179 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75210 or to a charity of your choice in Mr. Higley’s honor.

We have thought of you often and regret that we didn’t continue to make an effort to get together. We have fond memories of the dance club days; Marv was always the gentleman and a gentle person. Our sincere condolence.
