Obituary

Sir Mick Jagger once sang, “you can’t always get what you want.“  This proved true on March 12, 2015, when we lost a great man, James “Jim” Hanrahan.  He passed away in Plano, TX due to complications following COPD at the age of 72.

Jim was born on July 21, 1942 in Green Bay, WI to Robert Hanrahan and Jean Karnas (née Boyden). He graduated from West High School in 1960, and the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Pharmacy in 1965. In 1973 he married the love of his life, Jean Haven. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary just prior to his passing. Jim worked as a pharmacist for many years in the Green Bay area.  In 2011 he and Jean retired to Carrollton, TX, to escape the Wisconsin winters and care for their grandchildren.

To know Jim was to know his wicked sense of humor.  His ability to make people laugh (and laugh at himself) was one of his greatest attributes.  He was an avid music fan, especially when it came to The Rolling Stones.  He and Jean traveled many places in the world over the years to see them in concert.  Cars were a lifelong passion of Jim‘s.  For over 30 years he and Jean ventured to Indianapolis to attend the Indy 500 with family and friends.  Above all, he loved his family very dearly, and was an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jean, sons, Brian and Sean (Sonja), daughter, Erin (Rod) Cruz; and six grandchildren, Lauren, Michael, Alexandria, and Jakob Hanrahan, Eamon and Nico Cruz.

A memorial celebration will take place on April 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Hanrahans’ home.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life. Memorial funds have been established for donations with the American Lung Association (www.lung.org), and American Heart Association (www.heart.org).

    The best part about being with Jim was being with Jim! He made anything and everything fun with his commentary…even in the background when we were talking with Jean on the phone! We loved him and will miss him so very much and we love you all too. See you on the 11th to celebrate his full and happy life and share lots of memories! Steve & Vicki

    I knew Jim from highschool. Also I was a door to door milk man. We would see each other on occation. Jim was always a pleasure to talk to. And Jean, It was fun talking to you at the gas station. Pat & I send our love.

    Jean, we are so sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. Although we have loss touch in recent years, we have fond memories of standing up for your wedding, drag racing at KK, and that birthday dinner at the Carlton that the guys got to enjoy. We have always valued your friendship and hope you will contact us if you get back to Green Bay. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Although we have loss touch in recent years, we have so many fond memories with the two of you: standing up for your wedding, drag racing at KK, taco meals, and that birthday dinner at the Carlton that only the guys got to enjoy. "I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished.
