Obituary

Jane Marie (Reynolds) Augustini, of Allen, Texas, died surrounded by loved ones Wednesday, July 28, 2021, after a brief illness. She was 79. She was born Aug. 13, 1941, in Almond, New York, to parents John and Blanche Reynolds and was the youngest of seven children. She married Joseph Augustini on Aug. 19, 1960, and the two celebrated their 60th anniversary last year. Jane was a homemaker. Throughout her life, Jane enjoyed painting with oils and acrylics and appreciated the beauty of all things “art.” She loved music of all kinds but had a soft spot for ballads from the ‘50s and ‘60s, classical piano and, of course, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. She also loved to dance and swim. Jane enjoyed reading novels, particularly gothic mysteries. In her younger years, she was known to make the best lasagna around (a recipe even her Italian mother-in-law requested) and her potato salad was a must-have at family gatherings. Jane also loved animals from an early age, and many spoiled cats, dogs and parakeets graced her lap throughout her life. (She is survived by Charlie, her remaining fur-baby chi-weenie, who misses her frequent cuddles.) Jane had a great sense of humor, a trait she shared with her late husband, and in recent months had taken to staying up late to watch “The Golden Girls” reruns on the Hallmark Channel. She loved parties and family gatherings with music, good food and laughter. Sometimes she’d participate, and other times she’d sit back with a smile and soak in all the joy around her. Just a few weeks ago, she excitedly discussed plans for her upcoming 80th birthday bash. Her must-haves? Plenty of guacamole, homemade potato salad and blackberry cobbler. Jane was a modest person about her own talents, but when she started talking about her children and grandchildren, she bragged shamelessly. The pride she felt for each one of them was palpable. At the skilled-nursing home where she lived the past two years, she displayed all of their photos in her room, and when asked about them, she’d discuss at length their kindness, beauty, talents and accomplishments. Simply put, they were her greatest joy. Jane is survived her daughters, Tammy (Les) Bird of LaPorte, Texas, and Gina (Kent) Best of Plano, Texas; son, Mark (Melissa) Augustini of Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Jason Currey of Wichita Falls, Texas, David (Eme) Augustini of Allen, Texas, Amber O’Brien of Wichita Falls, Texas, Jake Augustini of Charleston, S.C., Tiffany Rodriguez of LaPorte, Texas, Emily Augustini of Houston, Texas, Joseph Mark Augustini of Boise, Idaho, and Annelise Best of Plano; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe; her parents; sisters Norma Clark and Doris Cuccia; and brothers Richard, John, Keith and Ben Reynolds.

A Celebration of Life service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021 Preston Meadow Lutheran Church 6801 Coit Road, in Plano, TX, 75024.

A brief graveside ceremony will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. Masks are optional for those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID, but the family requests that those who haven’t received full vaccination please wear masks. The family welcomes flowers because Jane enjoyed them so much. Or donations may be made in Jane’s name to Faith Presbyterian Hospice of DallasChildren’s Advocacy Center of Collin County in Plano, Texas or National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

Mom, it has been almost four months since you left us. You are remembered daily. I know you’re not in pain anymore and in a much happier place, but I still miss you so much. The holidays will hurt this year without you here to enjoy them with us. But I’ll do my best to enjoy them as much as you always did. Love you always. Gina

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
