Obituary

Billy Don Powell, age 88, died peacefully at his home in Carrollton, TX on February18th 2023.

Born June 25th, 1934 at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, he lived in and around Dallas most of his life.  He worked for Friendly Chevrolet in their parts department before serving in the Army.  In the army, because of his knowledge of car parts and all things mechanical, he served as head of the supply office in Korea after the Korean War. Once stateside he eventually opened his first Texaco gas station in Oak Cliff. He soon went on to own several more stations. A Gulf, American, and another Texaco, to name a few.  He was a natural business man.  He loved cars, and bought and sold many as a side business.  In 1974 he opened Richardson Automotive, and owned it until he retired.  He was a God-fearing man, and a generous man, who loved the Lord, his family, bowling, and Gospel music.  He spent many hours studying his Bible, and became quite the scholar, and enjoyed teaching it.

Bill and his wife Judy were long time members of Lavon Drive Baptist church, before joining Hillcrest Church in Dallas. In retirement, they attended Prestonwood Baptist, before settling at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship.

Bill leaves behind his beloved wife Judy of almost 55 years (Next month,) his sister Betty Lewis, his three children, Jim Powell and his wife Angela, Billy Don Powell Jr., and daughter Sharon Canter and her husband Cameron, his four grandchildren, Ashley Abston and her husband Jonathan, Parker Powell and his wife Shannon, Tori Canter, and Grant Canter. Bill was preceded in death by parents O.M. and Elizabeth Powell, brother David Powell, and daughter-in-law Holly Powell.

Bill Powell was a wonderful brother-in-law and friend. A TRUE Christian example.
You never wondered where he stood in his beliefs. Within minutes of any conversation the subject was directed to the Lord.
He loved and provided for his family.
I will greatly miss him, but rejoice in the fact that he is where he longed to be, in his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior🙏
    See ya later Bill❣️

Sharon, although I did not know your Dad well, I know he must have been a wonderful Christian man because I do know his beautiful daughter and that she has a heart for God. Thinking of you and praying for you today.

Sharon, I didn’t know your dad but in looking at the comments I can tell he was a man who knew the Lord Jesus here on earth, and because of that he is now with him for eternity. I celebrate that spiritual reality with you but I’m sure you miss him and I pray God’s peace for you and your family as you mourn.

    Grace and peace,
    Andrew

He is Finally Home! A seasoned friend of God.
He will love Heaven! A place where had spent so much of his life reading, thinking, and talking about.
He’s already hearing his favorite music! Singing along with perfect pitch! Singing songs the angels cannot sing…the songs of the Redeemed!
I bet if we were be able to find him in Heaven right this minute, he would be at Jesus’ feet!
I will miss our talks. But we’ll pick up where we left off, when I have finished my purpose here.
So, Bill, go rest high upon the Mountain! We’ll be there soon!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
