Obituary

Blakely Dewayne Mitchell, 56, beloved Son, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother and Friend passed away August 15th, 2023 after his valiant battle with cancer.

Born in Dumas, TX. October 13th,1966. Graduated from McCullough high school in The Woodlands, TX in 1985.

He began his college education at Kearney University in Nebraska, then went on to enlist in the United States Navy in 1986 where he served abroad the USS Midway deployed in the Indian Ocean as an electronics technician 2nd class ET2. He then transferred to USS independence deployed in Japan. After completing his commitment to the Armed Forces, he was Honorably discharged in May of 1992.

He was known to be adventurous in his earlier years that included racing dirt bikes while having a huge passion for the sport of Baseball. He went on to become a culinary master and spent many weekends perfecting recipes on his meat smoker and competing in cooking competitions. Blake was a lover of all music & spent a lot of his free time engulfed in his favorite tunes. His favorite hobby was working on & driving his Porsche, this brought him a sense of peace & enjoyment nothing else could!

Blake was a Dedicated Professional working for Glenayre & Motorola before starting at Metrocall, in 1996 now known as SPOK, Inc. where he was employed as Director of Technology Operations until his death.

Excelling in all things Technical, he was a proud & devoted employee.

Blake enjoyed spending time with his family and friends whom he loved very much. Anyone who knew Blake knew that he was the most loving Father and Pop-Pop a family could ask for, and the friend you could always count on.

Blake is survived by his 2 children: Shelby Spohr and husband Austin Spohr, and son  Austin Mitchell. His Mother, Lucretia Dargavage, and husband Frank. His Sister, Brandi Melton, and husband Dean, sister Kathy Lyons and husband Robert, sister Becky Hannah, brother Mark Mitchell and wife Le’Ann. Numerous nieces and nephews, and loving grandchildren, Willow & Koah Sporh.

Blake was preceded in death by his Grandmother: Madelyn Huffine. Granddad: Odell Newton. Father: Mitch Mitchell. Uncle: Gary Newton. Aunt: Ann Ashcraft. Uncle: Gene Ashcraft. Cousin: Ashlee Newton

A “Celebration of Life & Memorial Service” will be held at North Dallas Funeral Home: 2710 Valley View Ln. Dallas, TX. 75234 on August 26th at 11am.

Flowers can be sent to North Dallas Funeral Home addressed to the Mitchell Family.

Thereafter or in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Sarcoma Foundation of America or the American Cancer Society.

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."
