Obituary
Carla was born Carla Mae Conroy on September 26, 1939 in Atchison KS. She spent most of her childhood in Wichita KS, then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. In July of 1959, she married Vacil Ivan Sullens, Jr. They had two children, Vicky and Juli.
Carla and Vacil spent almost all of their married life in the Kansas City area. After Vacil passed away in 2007, Carla moved to Frisco, TX to be near her daughter Juli and her husband Larry. After her health deteriorated, she moved to assisted living in Plano.
Over the years, Carla served as manager of a test preparation center and a realtor. Later, she and Vacil ran a vending business together. She excelled at the arts, including painting, crafting and needlework. She traveled to Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and took many Caribbean cruises. She loved scuba diving, movies, especially the Harry Potter films, and would never refuse a good hamburger, ice cream or a Diet Coke.
Carla was preceded in death by her husband Vacil, her parents, Carl and Jo Conroy, and her sister Jane Memmer. She is survived by her daughter Vicky, her husband Richard Bruner and their children Jonathan and his wife Kelli, Sean, Ian, and Rhyanna Reilly and her husband Conor, her daughter Juli and her husband Larry, and her niece Jody Masters and her husband Mike Borin. Carla was also blessed with great-grandchildren Jordan, Patrick, Elora and Lincoln.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, KS 67401.
