Catherine (Kay) Joan Brown

Obituary

Catherine (Kay) Joan Brown, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022.  Kay was born on October 14, 1933 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Irvin and Mildred Griepentrog. Kay grew up in Waupun, Wisconsin.  She was a 1951 graduate of Waupun High School where she was a cheerleader, played the clarinet, and participated in drama.  She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1954.  She worked in pediatrics in Madison for several years before moving to Texas where she spent the next 40 years of her nursing career working in a pediatric practice for Dr. Ben Dildy, and associates, in Richardson, Texas. In 1955, Kay married David C. Brown of Madison, Wisconsin and had 3 children, Diane, Cathy, and David. Kay loved her work in pediatrics.  She’d often be on the phone from home, doling out medical advice to friends and family, or poking shots into arms at the kitchen table.  She enjoyed bridge, movies, slot machines, Elvis, and spending time with her grandkids.  She was a skilled knitter and an avid sports fan.   She faithfully followed the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Mavericks.  Kay carried on the Griepentrog tradition as a wonderful baker.  Her kids will never forget, or duplicate, her cinnamon rolls, angel food cake, and fudge bottom pie. Kay is survived by: her children, Diane M. (David) Boddicker of Antioch, IL; Catherine A. Brown of Whitewright, TX; and David G. Brown of Dallas, TX; her grandchildren in Texas, Mark A. and Emily R. Stein and Amanda C. and Alicia M. Brown; her sister, Joyce A. (Thomas) Funck of Middleton, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends. There will be a memorial mass for Kay on Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00am at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Dr., Dallas, TX.  Interment will be in Wisconsin at a later date. The family would like to thank everyone who helped our Mom along her life’s journey.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And, as a last act of defiance, Mom, I told you I was going to add this… “always on our backs, but forever in our hearts” – we will miss you!

Kay Brown was one of the neighborhood Moms when we were growing up on Eton Ridge in Madison, WI. We would often be invited to a BYOB (Bring Your Own BLANKET) for a front lawn picnic in the summer. She’d make the Kool-Aid. Later after my own son was well into his 20’s, I reconnected with Kay (and Diane) and Kay knitted some adorable sweaters for some youngsters in my life. Kay was a fun Mom, great neighbor and such a giving a caring human being. She will be sorely missed. ❤️

Auntie Kay, you were the best aunt a girl could ask for. Always willing to listen to my rants about my Mom (your sistah’) when I was a teen, and always right there to laugh with me about those times as well as laughing with me about our entire family’s ‘unique’ actions and personalities. It always felt like you were on my side, and that you ‘got me’. Feeling that got me through alot of Teen angst. Heck, it got me through most of life’s angst.
You are/were the best Auntie Kay and I will miss you terribly. I love you Auntie Kay … till we meet again.

    Dear family of Miss Kay,
So sorry to hear of the loss of your mother and grandmother. My children were patients of Dr. Dildy and Kay in Richardson, TX. Back in those days when young families were asking their friends for the best pediatrician in North Dallas the reply was always Dr. Dildy. I loved the mural of hot air balloons in the waiting room and I was told it was painted by Kay. What wonderful memories!
May Kay’s soul rest in peace.
    God Bless,
    Kay Severance

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
