Obituary

Donna Marie Norton Droby left this Earth a better place for having been on it for 78 years. She was born December 12, 1944, and passed away January 14, 2023, after a brief illness.

Donna was a teacher in the Dallas Independent School District for 35 years, teaching Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, English as a Second Language and acting as a reading specialist district wide. She gave her all for the betterment of young children, and many remember her to this day as their favorite teacher.

Donna also rescued an untold number of cats during her life and worked tirelessly as a volunteer with East Lake Pet Orphanage for many years.

She loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. Strong, positive, funny, and kind, she will always be remembered.

Donna is survived by her husband, Travis Ueoka, family members and many, many friends.

There will be a Celebration of Donna’s Life soon. Please keep in touch with old friends and be kind to each other as part of Donna’s legacy.

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by
a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

    I loved Donna so much and respected her love for education and family. We always looked forward to Thanksgiving when she and Travis visited us every year! I still have her little gifts she would bring me for hosting Thanksgiving and loved all the cards that she sent to me and our daughters. My family will also remember her for loving Travis and all her cat children.

    I was fortunate enough to be a student of Ms Droby, She was my 2nd grade teacher @ Nathaniel Hawthorne in Southeast Dallas. She was an AMAZING teacher, as well as a WONDERFUL person! She was such a beautiful woman inside and out.

    About 10 years ago, through a mutual acquaintance, I was reunited with her, I never expected to see her again. Oh the memories that flood my soul, I was so emotional at seeing her again. She was the same Ms. Droby I had always loved. I am so happy that I was given that time with her!
    My condolences to her family. May God give you peace and comfort in your time of need

    Our hearts are truly broken for Travis & all who loved precious Donna. She was our very first school girlfriend entering Lamar Elementary School in Palestine, Texas. We have such fond memories of attending all the football games, the sleep-overs, summer swimming and water skiing with all of our gang. She was brilliant, strong, wise and so very witty. Our friendship continued as adults and included State Fair trips to Dallas and believe it or not, seeing Elvis perform in the Astro Dome. All of our times spent together were never lacking in fun or laughter. We were so blessed to have Donna as our “Forever Friend” and we know when we see her in Heaven we’ll be over-joyed to be together again. Our love and continued prayers for Travis and Family as God leads through decisions going forward.

"If I could give 6 stars I would. Aria made a difficult easier to deal with by basically taking care of everything in an efficient but very empathetic manner. I can speak highly enough of Dusty Martin, who helped us with all of the planning and logistics. He was incredibly understanding and helpful."

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
