Edward “Woody” Charles Berube, Jr.
Obituary
DUE TO COVID, SERVICES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED: NEW SERVICE DATE 11:00AM, JULY 14, 2022. Edward “Woody” Charles Berube Jr., 77, died at the Heritage House of Allen on June 30, 2022 after a long battle with melanoma. Woody was born April 28, 1945 in Fall River, MA. In his youth, he was a breakout sports star in both baseball and basketball, setting various records in high school (Durfee, class of ‘63) and college (Colby, class of ‘67). He chose to pursue baseball professionally and briefly signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization before a back injury ended his career prematurely. After baseball, Woody enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving two years of active duty. After the military, Woody worked for Sylvania before landing a job with Xerox and relocating to Western New York. He continued his education at the Rochester Institute of Technology, earning his MBA in 1974. He developed a strong passion for golf, enjoying both the camaraderie and the competition of the sport. In 1976, he married Connie Thiebaud, and they had a daughter, Breanne, in 1979. When his daughter showed an aptitude for softball, Woody was beyond delighted to slip into the role of coach. In the early 2000s, the Webster Athletic Association honored both Woody and Connie for their support with a dedicated softball field at the town park. Woody continued to work at Xerox for nearly 40 years before retiring and moving to TX in 2010 to be closer to Connie’s family and golf year-round. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Connie Thiebaud Berube, of Allen, TX; his daughter, Breanne Berube, and her husband, Peter Pedini, of Milford, MA; his brothers, Richard and Ronald Berube, and their wives, Debra and Elizabeth Berube, of Fall River, MA; along with an enormous suite of in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Woody was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Gagne Berube, and father, Edward Charles Berube Sr., of Fall River, MA. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 14 at Aria Cremation Service & Funeral Home, located at 19310 Preston Road Dallas, TX 75252. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heritage House of Allen in Woody’s name. Heritage House info: Cindy Boggs 214-632-2382 1521 Yorkshire Allen, TX 75002

Tom & I considered it an honor to have known you, Woody. You were my original “taste tester” of my cupcake baking for the Sunday morning golfers. You always made me smile with your encouragement. Rest In Peace, friend. I know we’ll all be together again.
Breanne, thoughts and prayers for you and your mother.
A wonderful man loved playing golf with him.
My deepest condolences to Connie and Breanne on Woody’s passing. He was a great guy and close friend and a teammate at Durfee. Rest In Peace my friend. Godspeed
So sorry to hear of your passing. I am sure that you kept the good fight. Rest in peace my friend. You were one of the best.
So sorry to hear about Woody. I was a big fan, watching Woody play basketball and baseball at Durfee as well as baseball with the American Legion. Woody was a high pick in the 1965 MLB draft, shortly after Johnny Bench, and way ahead of Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan. I remember Woody coming by Durfee after signing with the Pirates, driving a 1966 Mercury Cyclone convertible. He brought a lot of pride to the school and it’s students.
My condolences to Woody’s family. We were classmates at Durfee, and we laughed a lot. He was a great friend. He will be missed.
I admire and admonished Woody as an athlete and a friend at Durfee and a long time before at Armory Basketball.
He was a great team leader as President of our senior class, at basketball and baseball, and was a great friend. He will be long remembered and sadly missed. My sincere condolences to his family.
Julie and I are both very sad to have lost Woody from this world. He was not only a gifted athlete, but a good friend. It was a joy and an honor to have been his friend and teammate for three years of Durfee basketball. Our sincerest condolences to his family.
Jack and Julie Isidor
Woody, rest in peace, my old friend. I still miss all our great golf matches at Wayne Hills in WNY. You and Connie were such gracious hosts in Webster NY and in Allen TX. You treated everyone you met with respect and dignity. We also enjoyed time together in Tampa FL. All your friends at Xerox and all your friends at Wayne Hills are deeply saddened by your passing. My deepest condolences to Connie and to Breanne. My prayers continue for your family from Fall River and for your wife and daughter. You were a tremendous athlete, a fantastic provider, enjoyed a splendid career, and you were always there in a pinch for friends as well as strangers. I miss you very much. I shall never forget all the coaching and lessons you taught. Woody, you will live in my heart forever. I know we will all be together again one day.
Sad to see you have left us and though I haven’t seen you for many years, we spent great times at XRX and on the course. May you RIP.
I know this is long overdue, but Ed was one of my mentors at Xerox and I am sorry to hear of his passing. He made a great contribution to my career success.
My dear friend Connie, condolences to you, Breanne and your loving family. Please contact me whenever you have time. Love to you always my ever lovin’ friend
