Jared Starr
Obituary
We have been truly blessed to have Jared in our lives for 35 years. Jared passed away on September 1, 2022, ending a lifelong challenge with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. All who knew him would agree that Jared was a brave and gentle soul. He never complained about his disability or questioned why he was inflicted. He touched many lives with his quiet nature, sharp wit, intellect, compassion, and kindness. Jared was a graduate of Plano West Senior H.S. and an honors graduate from both Collin College and University of Texas at Dallas. He enjoyed writing and his prose was a delight to read. He wrote a blog and was a frequent contributor to the Dallas paper’s editorial page. He relished traveling and had visited the east and west coasts and many states in between. He particularly enjoyed his road trips through West Texas especially, Big Bend. Jared enjoyed the thrill of adaptive water skiing; wheelchair hockey; playing board-games with local groups; fishing and visiting local museums and music venues. His life was enriched by his two assistance dogs, Mufasa and Jango. We extend a special thanks to Jared’s caregivers who provided him with loving care these many years and made it possible for him to participate in so many activities. We know Jared is happy in heaven being free of the wheelchair and able to run free and play with all his dogs. He is and will continue to be missed by his parents, Bert Starr and June Starr White, sister Kristyn (Botond), sister Laura (Michael), and his beloved niece and nephew. The family asks that you consider donating to RISE Adaptive Sports or Canine Assistants in his memory.

I was so sad to receive the news about Jared‘s passing. I was fortunate to be friends with him. We used to play on a wheelchair hockey team together. Although he was a quiet person, he had a great sense of humor and intellect. I was, in particular, jealous of is ability to grow such an amazing full beard…not to mention how handsome he was. I will miss you my friend! My prayers go out to Jared’s family. I hope the good memories you had together help ease some of your grief! Sincerely, Chris Fish
