Jerrie was born on November 30, 1939, in Anson, Texas, to Earl Dee Smith and Jewell Irene Neas Smith. Jerrie was raised in a close-knit family and grew up in Anson, Texas area. When she was in the 9th grade, she was in a major car accident that required treatment for over a year. She was able to return to school and graduate. She worked as a soda jerk in a local drugstore, where she met Worney “Joe” Rains. They married shortly thereafter, in 1956.

During their marriage, they had four children together: Michael Charles Rains, Donald Joe Rains, DeeAnn Rains Ashrat, and Darla Kay Rains Sanders. Joe and Jerrie initially raised their family in Hale Center, Texas, located north of Lubbock, Texas. Whereafter, they moved to Mesquite, Texas, in 1963, until such time that they permanently settled in Plano, Texas, in or around 1972.

Jerrie’s children were the love of her life. Growing up she enjoyed all of their activities, baseball, football, and drill team. She was also the President of the PTA and a hair stylist. Jerrie helped establish and run a successful family business – Rains Plumbing Heating and Air. In addition to being a successful businesswoman, Jerrie was a two-time breast cancer survivor. Jerrie loved sewing, reading, and was an avid Cowboys fan. Over her lifetime, Jerrie had many beloved pets that brought her companionship and comfort. Most of all her children and grandchildren brought her tremendous joy and love.

Preceding Jerrie in death are her: parents (Earl Dee Smith and Jewell Irene Smith); five siblings (Marlon Amasa Smith, Charles Edward Smith, Dorothy Nell McCoy, Lawrence Phillip Wesley Smith, and Mary June Donaho); and nephew (Matthew Paul McCarthy).

Left to lovingly remember Jerrie are her: two siblings (Willaim Earl “Bill” Smith and Betty Jo McCarthy); four children (Michael Charles Rains, Donald Joe Rains, DeeAnn Ashrat, and Darla Kay Sanders); eight grandchildren (Mollie D’Ann Smith, Courtney Mikayla Rains, Justin Michael Rains, Selby Christine Rains, Garrett Devlin Rains, Mallory Nicholle Rains, Nathan Brice Sanders, and Grant Marshall Sanders); seven great grandchildren (Aubrey Rae Smith, Forrest Smith, Peyton Smith, Smith Emory Rains, Dylan Patrick Rains, Freyja Elizabeth Ann Ochs, and Landon Apollo Rains); and numerous nephews and nieces.

“To Those I Love,” by Isla Paschal Richardson:

If I should ever leave you whom I love,

To go along the silent way, grieve not,

Nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk

Of me as if I were beside you there.

(I’d come – I’d come, could I but find a way!

But would not tears and grief be barriers?)

And when you hear a song or see a bird

I loved, please do not let the thought of me

Be sad…For I am love you just as

I always have…You were so good to me!

There are so many things I wanted still

To do – so many things to say to you…

Remember that I did not feat…It was

Just leaving you that was so hard to face…

We cannot see Beyond…

But this I know:

I loved you so – ‘twas heaven here with you!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
