Obituary

Konrad Anthony Johnson, 68, died at Park in Plano Nursing Facility in Plano, TX on February 10, 2023 from a debilitating stroke and diabetic healing complications. Some of you may have known him as Tony.

This is a heart-breaking loss for his remaining family. He is survived by his sister Kimberly Johnson and brother Kraig Johnson. Konrad was preceded in death by: his mother Mary Elizabeth Burgess Johnson, father Wilbur Johnson and family member second cousin Dorothy Pearson.

Born on March 6, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the first of 3 kids of an Air Force family. He lived part of his life in: Pease AFB NH, and Plattsburgh AFB, NY. Konrad also called home these places home: Englewood, OH; Warner-Robbins, GA; Dallas, TX and Garland, TX.

Konrad was a man molded by his military family up bringing. He was raised in a home where and “yes sir” and “yes mam” often said and manners were expected. Konrad shaped himself through his love of people, education, history and religion. He was and extravert. He loved meeting new people and talking with them about their lives and his experiences. It was not unusual to see him speak to people working in a restaurant, a repair shop, a department store, an elevator, a grocery store, a hallway in a school, in a bus or where ever he would be. He loved delivering and receiving pun jokes.

Konrad enjoyed people interaction. His life was filled with positions that let him serve people. He was a high school football player, a teacher, a sales associate, a retail cashier, an administrative assistant, a government contract specialist, a camp counselor, a clown, a choir member, a bilingual acquaintance, a bible study leader and a good friend. He liked volunteering to help others in the neighborhood and church. Konrad enjoyed teaching middle school kids.

Konrad studied Spanish in school and learned Portuguese from friends. He was known for greeting people, sometimes in their language, and teasing them to sometimes make them smile or laugh.

Konrad loved travelling by car across the United States to meet with family and friends. He liked watching football, hockey, game shows and wrestling. Konrad like to sing and play his guitar. He was smart, kind and protective of my sister and me growing up.

For all to know, it has been tough to say good bye to our brother. Konrad was a wonderful brother and we were blessed to have had him in our lives. Kimberly and I will miss him.

Konrad requested to be cremated and not to have a memorial service. Memorial contributions are welcome to the American Diabetes Association.

Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Such beautiful words written about Tony. He was such a special person. I remember running into him in Columbus about 4 years after we were out of school. He gave me the biggest smile and hug that day. We later reconnected on FB and got to share our Christian faith with each other. He is definitely singing in heaven today!!! I’m sure his passing has left a huge whole in your family. Prayers for peace and comfort for you and Kim. Pat Shand Wasch.

    Dearest Cousins,
I mourn the passing of Tony with you. We were fortunate to grow up together within a loving, caring, fortunate family. I treasure the memories I have of us laughing and playing together at your parents homes in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Plattsburgh, New York and Englewood,Ohio and in my parents home in Philadelphia, PA. My heart smiles knowing Tony has family to welcome him to heaven – our parents, Aunt Kay, Uncle Bert, Uncle Fred, Uncle Al Price, Sweet Dottie and a host of other relatives who loved him. Praying for Tony to rest in peace and Power. Love and light, Imani Constance

    Dear Craig and Kim,
Our prayers and love and condolences are sent to comfort you two and the family on Tony’s transition to be with the savior. Our time with your family in Dayton was a blessing that Carolyn and Jan shared with us. Tony was mostly gone then and we only spent Wilbur, Bettye, Dottie, Craig and Kim time. We are thankful for those fun times together and wish you all the best and brightest favor in your futures. Much love!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
