Lavern “Vern” Curtis Bauers “Andy”, 81, of Plano, Texas sadly passed away on August 1, 2022. He died peacefully in his sleep with loved ones by his side. Andy was born on January 13, 1941 to Burdette LaVern “Bert” Bauers and Gwendolyn Florence (Curtis) Bauers in Tecumseh, Nebraska. He attended York High School, Class of 1959 and received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Nebraska in 1963. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, 1964 – 1966
Andy will be remembered for his love of swimming. At 16, he set the national record in the 100 yd breaststroke, which earned him a scholarship to the University of Nebraska. There, he won four Big Eight championships in his senior year. He retired from Travelers Insurance after 27 years of employment. Andy enjoyed playing golf, bridge and was active for many years with his Church family. He had a love for eagles and was a huge Neil Diamond fan, which was passed along to his children. Andy was a quiet man with a huge smile and even bigger heart.
Laverne Curtis Bauers “Andy” was preceded in death by his parents Bert & Gwen Bauers of York, Nebraska; his brother Richard (Gladys) Bauers of Ridgecrest, California.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Jean (Simpson) Bauers of Plano, Texas; his son Brian Lee Bauers (Diane) of Friendswood, Texas; his daughter Jaime Leigh (Bauers) Pipkin (Josh) of Amarillo, Texas; his brothers Dennis Bauers (Helen) of Bradshaw, Nebraska; Allen Lee (Diane) of Delhi, Iowa; David (Cindy) of Grand Island, Nebraska; his sister Jo Ann Parrott (Mike) of Lincoln, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews and 5 wonderful grandchildren.
Services will be on Saturday, August 20th in Plano, Texas at the Christ United Methodist Church at 11:00am. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Lincoln, Nebraska at 2:00pm on Friday, September 16th at Antelope Park Church of the Brethren.
