Obituary

Mary Carrier Stewart, 92, died in Dallas, TX on June 18, 2022. Born January 10, 1930 in Bridgeport, TX as the 12th and youngest child to parents Eugene Carrier and Bence Avila. She attended school in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Texas and was a migrant worker in the beet fields in those states.  She came from humble beginnings and was a coal miner’s daughter and lived in a dirt floor home with an outhouse. She was only allowed one piece of paper per week to indulge her love of art and drawing and she used every inch of it. She attended one room schoolhouses and was able to skip a grade by listening in to the upper grades. She graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, IL at age 16.  She honed her artistic talent at the Art Institute of Chicago. She married Carl N. Stewart, Jr. on August 1, 1953 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas.  They moved to Richardson in 1955 and were founding members of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.  She was very involved with her church and neighborhood.  Her home was open for parties (Halloween was a favorite), weddings (hosted 7 weddings and receptions), and visits (beans were on the stove at the ready).  Many experienced her pranks with her favorite holiday, April Fools. Her home was decorated with her paintings and mementos from her travels to 69 countries.  She sold hundreds of handmade personalize greeting cards utilizing canceled stamps and enjoyed visiting nursing homes.  She was known for her wit, wearing hats, and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church’s 7:45am community. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl. She is survived by her children Carla Marie Stewart Boshart and husband Jim and family James and Michaella Boshart, William and Caitlin Boshart, Hannah Irene Boshart , and Christina Rosie Boshart; Paul David Stewart and wife Janete Maria and family Paul, Jr. and Jordan Stewart and Paul, III, Sara and Kyra Stewart and Mya, Chris and Kaili Stewart and Zeplin and Zephyr Stewart; Maria Stewart Rice and family Rachel Diane Rice, Michael and Haley Rice and Jensen and Curtis Rice, Brenda Nicole Rice; Alan Carrier Stewart and wife Wendy and family Ella Mary and Warren Stewart; and Anna Christina Stewart LeBlanc and husband Rick and family Dylan, Amber, and Sean LeBlanc. A rosary will be said at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 720 S. Floyd Road, Richardson, TX 75080 on Friday, July 8 at 10:30am with the funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am. A reception will follow at St. Paul’s Parish Center. The family requests no flowers and suggests that flowers be given to individuals in nursing homes. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to any adoption agency.

My Aunt Mary was quite an individual, witty, smart, artistic. She was the youngest sister of my dads family. All his brothers and sisters were gifted. The summer of 67, I stayed with her family while working in Dallas just before my senior year in high school, you grow close when that happens. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for her and her family. RIP Aunt Mary, love you Geno.

Stewart family, I had so many happy times in your home and your mom was forever the greeter, hostess, gifter and story teller that brought those times to life! I hope you remember each one of the happy times, all the amazing trips and wonderful holiday gatherings she was at the center of. I’m sure she is resting peacefully now and hope you can take some solace in knowing all the joy she brought to others on earth she is now sharing in heaven. You and your children were her pride and joy. Love to you all,

Aunt Mary was a force to be reckoned with! She was funny, articulate, mischievous, energetic, and loving! Her Halloween parties were unique and her home always open to company. She loved riding in my F-250, although getting her up into the cab left me pushing on her derrière! Mary was one of my favorite role models, and I had the great honor of having her as my Godmother.
    XOXOXOXO Darlene

Remembering when you, Carla and Jimmy when you were married at home with your Gracious Mother, Mary. So beautiful! I often tried to pattern my “cards” after your Mom but didn’t come close. Sending loving thoughts your way.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
