Obituary
James (Jim) Harold Powell passed away peacefully this past Friday. He was 87. Jim was born James Harold Powell on February 22, 1934 in Oakman, Alabama. He graduated from Lee High school in Columbus, Mississippi before attending his beloved Mississippi College graduating in 1956. After Mississippi College he graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. In 1960, Jim married Lynn Frazier and moved to Bradley, Arkansas as pastor of First Baptist Church. While in Bradley, James and Lynn had two children Jim JR. and Laura Catherine. In 1967, Jim and his family were called to the First Baptist Church Daingerfield, Texas. Jim remained as pastor for 13 years, and while there his son William was born. In 1980, Jim was called to join Dallas Baptist University as Assistant to the President, from DBU Jim continued in education joining Northwood University as Dean and as a private consultant to many colleges across the country. After years of travelling Jim decided to slow down and started working for DISD in Adult Education before ending his professional life with Vought Aircraft. After a few years in retirement Jim returned to his lifelong calling of being a pastor by ministering to the members at West Fork and Grace Fellowship both in Grand Prairie. Jim Powell met Vicki Johnson in the 80’s, when they fell in love and began a lifelong relationship. Jim and Vicki married and worked to bring their blended family together. They loved to spend time with family, especially their grandchildren and each other travelling. Jim loved life, loved travelling, meeting new people, talking with friends and family and learning something new every day. He loved to read and always inquired of his children and grandchildren what they were currently reading. He was truly blessed and blessed those around him. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Austin and May D Powell, his first wife Lynn Frazier and second wife Victoria Johnson. Jim is survived by his brother Tommy Powell (Judy) of Pearl, MS, his three children; Jim Powell, Jr. (Sandy) of Albuquerque, NM Catherine Juszkiewicz (Henry) of Nashville, Tn and William Powell (Yolanda) of Waxahachie, Tx. His three stepchildren Cole Johnson of Austin, TX., Lee McKinzey (Phil), of Grapevine, Tx and Hill Johnson of Grapevine, Tx and nine grandchildren, Nathan Powell, Caleb Powell, Kensington Juszkiewicz , Cash Johnson, Lily Johnson, Caroline Johnson, Samantha Johnson, Ian McKinzey, Gray McKinzey. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church/Grace Fellowship 1202 NE 20TH ST Grand Prairie, TX. Flowers may be sent to the church on Friday evening and Condolences sent to 926 Caldwell Ln, Nashville, Tn 37204. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church PO Box 535062 Grand Prairie, Tx 75053 in memory of James Powell, Sr.

On behalf of my mother (and James Harold’s aunt) Willodean Powell Adams and myself, I send loving condolences. I remember Mom telling me about how James Harold would “preach” while standing on a tree stump when he was a young boy in our grandparent’s yard. Blessings to all.
