Obituary
Dr. Randy Lee Collins, 50, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Southwestern Medical Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Collins was born on June 20, 1972, in Camden, Tennessee, to the late Jimmy Wayne Collins and Carolyn Sue Carroll. He is survived by his mother Carolyn (Clyde) Carroll of Lobelville, TN, his brother Marty Collins of Camden, TN, his brother Dwayne (Lucy) Collins of Camden, TN, his nephew Todd Collins of Martin, TN, his niece Megan (Zach) Hoover of Dayton, TN, and two grandnephews Zachary and Max Hoover of Dayton, TN.
Dr. Collins received his master’s degree in Applied Mathematics in 2000 and his doctorate degree in Mathematics Education in 2008, both from the University of Tennessee. He had numerous publications in mathematics journals. Randy worked as a Professor of Mathematics at Collin College since 2011, where he served as Developmental Mathematics Chair from 2013 to 2015. Randy loved teaching and battled through many tough days in the end to be there for his students. He was well respected and loved by all his colleagues and will be greatly missed.
A private “Celebration of Life” will be held to honor Randy’s legacy. Befitting Randy’s kindness and generosity, a Collin College Foundation scholarship has been set up in his name. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Dr. Randy L. Collins Memorial Scholarship Fund.
