Plan Ahead

Rick Forbes

January 12, 1963 –
 September 17, 2022

Rick Forbes passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2022, at the age of 59. He was known as a loving, caring husband and father who was truly cherished by his entire family. Rick is now home with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ celebrating with his parents, brothers and other loved ones in heaven.

Rick was born in Southern California on January 12, 1963, to Ruth Lesch and Harold Forbes. He grew up and settled in the Dallas Area. Rick attended Bryan Adams HS and graduated in 1981. He spent much of his life working, spending time with family and hanging out with his great group of friends.

Throughout the years he was a dedicated and loyal employee. He started at Superior AP in 1987 and he worked at Turbine Aircraft in North Texas in his later years.

Rick had a wide variety of interests through the years. Growing up Rick was very active and participated in sports such as racquetball, football and softball. He also enjoyed racing his orange-red Camaro at Friday Night Lights at Texas Motor Speedway. Rick was involved in many area car shows winning over 40 first place trophies and plaques. He loved camping, being outdoors, researching his family ancestry, traveling and taking care of his pets.

He was an active member of the Scottish Clan Forbes Society, where he hosted a booth at various Scottish Festivals over the last 6 years. Rick had the opportunity to explore his heritage in Scotland in March of 2019 and visited Forbes Castle with his family. Rick was able to travel extensively to many places and spent two weeks in Germany for his honeymoon.

Rick is survived by wife of 29 years, Junella, his two beautiful daughters Erin and Heather, his pride and joy-grandson James, his sister Deborah and her husband Fabian, nieces Stephanie and Monica, Aunt Joan and Uncle Charles. He is also survived by close relatives Kayleigh, Devon, Shayla and Haley and Jaden. Rick is preceded in death by his parents Harold Forbes and Ruth Lesch , his brothers Billy Maupin and Darrell Forbes..

Rick will be cremated per his wishes and a memorial service/Celebration of Life is scheduled for mid-October. His family will announce the details via phone and

social media. The family members prefer private messaging, texts and voicemails for now until formally announced on social media by his wife.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate or volunteer your time to either your local SPCA or Animal Shelter, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society North Texas Chapter or The Dallas Area Parkinson’s Foundation. These were all charities Rick supported and volunteered his time.

Rick was a great friend and colleague. Working together at Superior. He refered to me as his favorite yankee and actually visited me in Pennsylvania. When the Cowboys and the Eagles played each other we would be texting back and forth teasing each other. He will be missed by everyone. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I met rick online while searching for common ancestors on the Forbes/Forbus line. We became friends on Facebook and would often share tips and news about family research. The news of Rick’s passing was truly shocking. I will miss his jokes online and his friendship.

    Junella, Debbie, Erin, Heather,
I am so very sorry to hear about Rick. I am still in shock. What an awesome man he was. I’ve known him since he was a teen working with him at Sizzler and then after at Las Colinas Landscape. A great worker with a great work ethic. A great friend who you always wanted at your side…and a friend who always had your back.
A true and loyal friend. A great smile and sense of humor. He will truly be missed.
May God bless him and keep him and shine His face upon him.

Some of you knew Rick from his family or his work. I just knew him as Paladin17. We had a small video gaming group who played every week and just loved getting to know him and share life.

I’m still in shock at the loss but will never forget him. He touched gaming people he may have never met face to face but they will remember him. RIP Rick

On behalf of the entire Clan Forbes Society, I wish to offer condolences on the passing of our clansman. I was able to spend a couple of days with Rick at the Sherman Celtic Festival & Highland Games this past March. While coming from different backgrounds and experiences, we discovered a great deal in common. I was looking forward to many more festivals with him — but I will cherish the time I had.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
