Obituary

Shauna Leigh Schultz passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the age of 42 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on January 25, 1980 in Houston, Texas, beloved by her parents John & Gayle Schultz and adored by big brother Jason. She grew up in Orange, Texas, graduating from Little Cypress Mauriceville High School in 1998 and then continued the family legacy, graduating from Texas A&M University, Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2002. (Whoop!)

Shauna began her teaching career at White Rock Elementary and later became an integral part of Lake Highlands Elementary. A passionate advocate for her elementary students, Shauna kept in touch with many of them throughout their lives, cheering for them at sporting events, attending extracurricular activities and even college graduations. Her enthusiasm and passion for her students was authentic and genuine, and she could always be counted on for encouragement, support, and wisdom. Once you were one of Shauna’s people, she loved you through it all.

Shauna loved Harry Potter, and 80’s and 90’s music (especially New Kids on the Block), and spending time with her family. She made so many happy memories at the lake house – jet skiing, making s’mores by the cowboy fire, or just sitting on the porch with her dad, watching the sunset and listening to music. But her greatest passion in life was her two beautiful children, Brandon and Shelby. Being their mom was the most important job in the world to her, and she loved every single moment of it. She loved seeing Brandon’s curiosity grow, and the kindness of Shelby’s heart. She protected them with everything she had.

The past few years presented Shauna with myriad challenges. She battled through cancer treatment, health issues, and many complications. But throughout it all, her smile never faltered. She stayed brave, kind, loving, and optimistic. She was loved and admired by many before this difficult journey, but the perseverance of her spirit in the face of these trials is a true inspiration. The family is grateful for all of the love and support from the community. You lifted her up and continue to lift us up during our grief.

Shauna was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Byford Sealy and paternal grandparents Cynthia Schultz and Charles Schultz. She is survived by her wonderful children, Brandon and Shelby Breeckner; parents John & Gayle Schultz of College Station, Texas; brother Jason Schultz (Ashley Evans) of Houston, Texas; her Mammaw JoAnn Sealy of Andrews, Texas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, students, and her two fur babies Lily and James.

A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Great Hall at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, 9015 Plano Rd, Dallas, TX 75238 (enter off McCree Rd). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Shauna’s name to East Lake Pet Orphanage or UT Southwestern Medical Center – Kidney Transplant Clinic.

A shining example of huge courage and persistence whilst continuing on with great love for her children, her family, her students- that is how I think of Shauna. As a friend and neighbor of her parents,Gayle and John, I only met her a few times, but she will ever be an inspiration! What a beautiful image I will always have in my thoughts of Shauna!
And may this affirmation shared with me in a grieving time bring us all comfort in this most difficult time, »Where Love is we can always meet, and where Love is, we can never part. »

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
