Shaw, Kathryn Blake Hornor
Obituary
Kathryn Blake Hornor Shaw (Kitty), 88, began life in Weston, WV on 2/20/1933. Kitty was born to parents William Hornor and Gertrude Bishop Hornor. She passed away peacefully on 4/19/2021 at CC Young Senior Living Center in Dallas. Kitty was the youngest of 5 adored sisters, including Frances (Fran) Sessions who resides in Dallas, Texas. Kitty graduated from WVU with a degree in Elementary Education and continued graduate studies at SMU after moving to Dallas in 1958. Her daughter, Jenny, arrived in 1968 and Kitty joyfully embraced motherhood while continuing her career in education. She worked tirelessly as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher in RISD for 30 years. After “retiring” in 1988, she still felt the call to teach and carried on as a substitute teacher for another 10 years in the district while also volunteering at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, where she used play therapy and loving encouragement to impart hope to children and families during their gravest hours. She was given the Honorary Lifetime Member Award from the Texas PTA in 1988 and was also presented with the Community Service Award for Excellence in Education by the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce. Kitty was a breast cancer survivor but rarely focused on herself. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and was a smiling and empathetic face at the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas welcome desk from 1998-2009. Kitty’s greatest joy and source of pride was her daughter, Jenny (Jen) Shaw Williams, Jenny’s husband Mike Williams and two grandchildren, Cole and Brenna. Her family will say that most notably, Kitty loved to laugh. She took herself lightly while taking very seriously, the care of others. She was an encourager and the first one to offer friendship to someone who might need it. She loved to sing with the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church choir along with several other chorale groups. In her singing, she imbued the same gracious spirit with humility and a big love for life and the people who walked with her in it. For that, she will be joyfully remembered. Kitty is survived by daughter Jen Shaw Williams, son-in-law Mike Williams, sister, Fran Sessions and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held May 13th at 2:00 p.m. Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas on All are welcome to attend.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, and Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church.
We wish to thank the nursing, administrative and hospice staff at CC Young. Their support and care has meant so much to our family.Testimonials

Ms Shaw was my 2nd grade teacher and absolutely one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. When my little brother was born, I asked to take him as my “show and tell” and she was delighted. She responded in a way that never made me feel that it was an odd action but rather a brilliant one. Eventually, as it was meant to be, my little brother was also in her 2nd grade class. What a kind and delightful women. I remember her fondly to this day.
