Obituary

Shirley Roux Larson, 79, of Plano, TX, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, December 30, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Atlanta, GA on August 14, 1943, to the late Wilfred Luke Roux and the late Marie Virginia (Spinks) Rolfe. Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and John Burns of Windsor, CT; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Pam Larson of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Jenna Larson of Dallas, TX; sister, Carolyn Duffy of Ocala, FL; nephew, John Duffy (Theresa) of Chipley, FL; nieces Lynn Shelhamer (Jim) and Maureen Duffy of Ocala, FL; and her dear friends and Storehouse co-workers. Including her mother and father, she was predeceased by stepmother Dorothy (Luchow) Roux Diana and stepbrother David Roux.

Shirley spent her early childhood years in Springfield, MA before the family moved to Boynton Beach, FL in the 1950s. She grew up and lived in the greater West Palm Beach area until the late 1960s. Shirley moved with her two children, Paul and Pamela, to Freeport, Grand Bahamas for a few years to be close to her parents. In the Bahamas, she attended secretarial college and attained her bookkeeping certification. Bookkeeping would be her chosen lifelong profession and provided many opportunities for her rewarding and successful career. She moved her family back to South Florida in 1969 where she often juggled two or three jobs to provide for her children while always being present and gave all she could to support their education and encourage their dreams. She surrounded her children with love, faith in God and the belief they could achieve anything they wanted. When she moved the family back to Boynton Beach in late 1975, she was able to be closer to her beloved sister, Carolyn, and family. Her career thrived when she went to work for the Therrien family, owners of a group of restaurants in the area. She would work for the Therrien family for close to 25 years. In 2007, she moved to San Antonio, TX, to be with family, and most importantly, her beloved granddaughter, Jenna. She loved nothing more than being “Grandmacita”. In 2008, along with her son’s family, she moved to Dallas, TX and she remained in that area until her passing. Her 14 years in the Dallas/Plano area were truly wonderful, enriching and soul filling. During these years, her position with The Storehouse of Collin County became her heartfelt mission and she found the most supportive church family and treasured friends. It was with these groups that she thrived, joining in on many travel adventures, including visiting The Holy Land and Italy, and enjoying a lively, fun and enriching social life.

The lights of her life were her children Paul and Pamela and their spouses Pam and John, her granddaughter Jenna and her sister Carolyn. She loved God, smooth jazz, playing cards, reading, going to the movies, everything Star Trek/Star Wars/Harry Potter, the Miami Dolphins, Wanda’s Boo Brunch and decorating for every holiday on the calendar, especially Christmas.

A worship service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 3:00 pm at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, TX, 75093. Inurnment in the Good Shepherd Meditation Garden and Columbarium will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to The Storehouse of Collin County, 1401 Mira Vista Boulevard, Plano, TX 75093, https://www.thestorehousecc.org.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Your mom, to me, was always one of the girls when she came visiting to New England. I adored her. She will be missed by many.

Look at that smile! Shirley was always a ray of sunshine. I remember a trip when she drove and four of us went to visit the Bluebonnets. Such a fun day. She was a mainstay in our small SS class and always fun in our social get togethers. I have cards she sent at various holidays. Prayers for her family. She was loved by many.

Shirley was a blessing to anyone she met. I got to know her through church, and our shared breast cancer journeys. She was so supportive of me when I got my diagnosis and she alerts disaster to my fundraising efforts for the Susan G Komen 3-day walks that I participated in. I will miss her and her infectious smile! May God give your family comfort and peace, and know that we will all be together again one day!

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
